Our Story

Having spent many years studying Sri Lankan real estate, the seeds of Groundworth were sown after founding partner Kasun Andrahennadi realised he had a strong intuition for finding developing areas with a fast appreciation value. Experience had shown that the most challenging task was to find a space that ticked all criteria for creating a potential home; accessible approach road, safe and secure neighborhood, convenient distance to all local amenities, appreciation potential & the most important of all; a clear title deed. More often than not after finding the perfect land, the title has many legal complications, leading to disappointment and a fresh search.

The process of finding one single plot that meets all requirements often feels impossible. Groundworth spends many days pursuing brokers, searching online and printed classified ads, as well as hours on the road to bring the perfect plot directly to clients. By taking the headache, and often heartache, out of the process, these thorough methods ensure that a purchase is never made until there is 100% certainty that the land is clear and it ticks all essential criteria.

Groundworth’s affiliated lawyer has many years of experience as the former Head of Legal at a reputed financial institution, ensuring an extra thorough process is undertaken when going through the fine print required to clear titles. Once complete, the case is passed on to a second affiliated advisor, a lawyer and former magistrate. The final tick of approval comes from Groundworth’s associate chartered Architect, who assesses the potential of the land for design and construction.

Once given the green light, Groundworth completes the purchase. Having made several previous purchases using the same thorough methods, the company’s founding partner realised the potential in applying the same stringent processes to benefit others. Established on the difficult experiences of finding clear land with development potential, the business provides an end-to-end solution for anybody looking to invest without the hassle of the chase, or the knowledge of what makes it the perfect plot both for building a home and a future investment. The time saved is invaluable, allowing more focus for setting the right foundations for the future.

Kasun Jeevanath Andrahennadi

Co-Founder & Managing Director

Kasun began his career at the age of 17, joining his family business which is one of Sri Lanka’s largest commodity trading establishments, founded in the year 1941. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management, and Diplomas in Shipping & Freight Forwarding, Psychology and International Relations, making him highly qualified in business and public relations.

Kasun has over 23 years of experience in business, is a partner in the family business, and owns an award-winning villa that is extremely popular with tourists.

He established Groundworth along with Co-Founder Hans Christian Gut with ignited passion for the industry. With years of real estate experience and a track record of successful projects, Kasun now brings extensive expertise to the business.

Lalith Andrahennadi

Director

An Attorney at Law since 1981, Lalith served as a Magistrate and District Judge from 1988-1994, which included a tenure as the Municipal Magistrate of Colombo. His extensive career includes a plethora of roles such as Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (1995-1996), Building Material Corporation (2004-2007), as well as Director of HDFC Bank.

Lalith also served as a legal consultant to the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs (2007-2009), and as Commissioner General of the Department of Community Based Corrections (2009-2011). Thereafter, between 2011 and 2015, he was the Senior Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reform and continues to practice as a Senior Counsel.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kaleniya and a Diploma in Tourism as well. With a strong affinity for real estate, Lalith has been an advisor to many clients in this field. His legal background brings immense value to Groundworth, particularly in navigating and clearing deeds, a critical aspect of real estate transactions.

Hans Christian Gut

Co-Founder / Director

Groundworths’ Co-Founder and Advisor, Hans Christian Gut, is a Swiss Investment Banker who began his career in the banking sector in 2002. After six years in the industry, he began to specialise in Swiss Private Banking and Wealth Management.
This focus led to working for UBS Group, one of the most important wealth managers worldwide. Working within their wealth management division, Hans delivered holistic financial advice for high networth families, their individual members and corporate needs. His experience and passion in the financial advisory field ignited his entrepreneurial spark, and in August 2021 he left UBS Group to pursue his venture and establish his own consulting firm.

Hans is currently managing various advisory mandates and will also develop the cooperation for Groundworth internationally. With a personal link to Sri Lanka through his wife’s family heritage, this new partnership will nurture this intercultural seed and no doubt continue to grow.
